Overview of the role

The principal role of the Senior Designer is to create, develop and deliver award-winning creative solutions for our clients and prospects. You’ll be responsible for responding to creative briefs, creating design solutions and maintaining the integrity of the work for our clients. We are looking for someone who is passionate about creating inspiring work and who has a genuine interest in telling our clients stories in a compelling way. You’ll need the ability to mix creative flair with commercial awareness, to effectively present and sell in your work, the ability to maintain your head when things get busy, and a great personality to boot!

Your Key Responsibilities
Provide creative leadership

To provide overall design direction and leadership across assigned client work and new business pitches. Proactively leading the thinking, the design process and the delivery. Combining highly creative and strategic thinking, to proactively push and challenge a brief, and to interpret business and communications objectives into original and relevant propositions and creative solutions – being the ultimate custodian of all creative output, ensuring that the integrity, accuracy and quality of work are maintained.

Strengthen client relationships

To build strong client relationships with senior and day to day client contacts, instilling their trust and confidence in your abilities to meet their needs. Successfully sell in creative solutions to clients. To be proactive in all client dealings, manage account problems efficiently and provide exemplary client services at all times.


Take commercial responsibility

Manage project resources (time and budgets) to deliver jobs profitably, on time and to the desired quality. Source high quality but cost-effective suppliers, and where required direct
and manage them and creative collaborators as necessary. Establish a network of resources
to extend our capabilities (e.g. freelance creatives). Where required, make an active contribution to new business.


Support your team

Act as a mentor for junior designers within the team. When your team presents creative work
to you, be proactive in assessing it and giving helpful advice to aid other designers to improve
their work and grow.

  • Lead Digital Designer

Working closely with:

  • The wider Creative, Account Management and Publishing teams

Your qualifications, experience & skills

The ideal candidate will have the following profile of skills and experience:

  • Degree level qualification from a reputable Art/Design college would be beneficial;
  • Ideally a minimum of five years’ experience in corporate communications, with proven annual reports design experience;
  • Expert knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop;
  • Excellent knowledge of the print and production process;
  • Flash and Multimedia knowledge would be preferable;
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills necessary to present your solutions and to build trust and respect both with clients and the team; and
  • Excellent eye for detail, ambitious for the quality of your work, and a constant search for excellence.

Our new Hybrid way of working
Over the last 12 months, the way in which we work has changed. We surveyed and engaged with our staff to learn about what Black Sun’s future of work looks like, and thanks to everyone’s positive engagement and feedback, we developed a hybrid way of working, governed by three fundamental principles: Colleague, Client and Culture. This means that however you decide to deliver work, you should protect all of these 3 C’s. After a period of onboarding, employees have the ability to work from home, office and, where applicable, on-site with clients. The number of days is dependent on teams, role, time of year and deliverables.

This role will be open to being part-time or full-time on an ongoing freelance basis.
