We are looking for candidates with strong financial and corporate communications skills, with an emphasis on developing a compelling corporate narrative for investor and wider stakeholder audiences and on growing successful client relationships.

With the rise and rise of ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) up the corporate agenda, an interest in sustainability is also an important aspect of this role. Boards are increasingly expected – and required – to incorporate sustainability considerations, including ESG-related issues and climate action, into their decision-making at a strategic and operational level, resulting in a strong trend towards integrated reporting where sustainability is incorporated into all key aspects of corporate reporting.

The Communications and Reporting Consultant sits within the Insight team at Black Sun and works on a range of reporting and communications projects. Working closely with our Corporate Reporting and Sustainability Consultancy Directors for strategic and technical advice, the Communications and Reporting Consultant will be driving the development of strategic relationships and consultancy work for clients – assessing needs, formulating strategies, defining, and realising deliverables  

They will also work closely with all parts of the Black Sun business – helping to win new business, developing strategic roadmaps for clients, delivering projects on-time and to a high quality and contributing to Black Sun’s award-winning thought leadership and best practice consultancy. Key role responsibilities

Client work

  • To work with clients in developing their value creation story in a clear and meaningful way to their key stakeholders
  • To provide best practice strategic advice on corporate reporting, ESG and wider communication to clients and new business prospects, using your expertise and knowledge to drive debates and shape clients’ communications strategies
  • To lead opportunities presentations, interim assessments, peer analysis, benchmarking and content audits/guidelines, and ad hoc consultancy work and presenting this work to clients
  • To conduct deep dive research into the corporate communications of Black Sun clients to assess their current communications approach, content and overall effectiveness.
  • To lead engaging client workshops, presentations and external events on best practice communication with a particular focus on topics such as strategy, ESG, climate, corporate governance and relevant regulation.
  • To help present Black Sun’s wider communications offer to existing Black Sun clients and demonstrate the value of developing an impactful communications framework and plan, beyond simply disclosing or reporting data and information


  • To work closely with other consultants in the team to develop key processes, methodologies and best practice approaches
  • To provide guidance, education, support and expertise to junior members of the insight and knowledge teams as well as other internal teams as required, ensuring the account teams are well equipped to drive discussions with clients

Business development  

  • To help pitch for and win new business, with existing and new prospects as relevant.  

Research and thought leadership

  • To help develop and deliver Black Sun’s own insight and engagement research and benchmarking toolkit and methodologies.
  • To contribute to the development of Black Sun’s impressive thought leadership and editorial productions.

Skills and experience:

  • At least six years’ experience in communication roles, preferably in corporate reporting or financial PR
  • History of working with multinational organisations presenting and providing advice on best practice corporate reporting and communication
  • Strong knowledge of key trends in Annual and Sustainability reporting – key issues, engagement channels, stakeholder needs
  • Be very familiar with the UK corporate reporting and regulatory environment for investor and ESG communications, including Annual Reports
  • Substantial knowledge of relevant reporting frameworks (<IR>, TCFD, SASB, ISSB etc.)
  • Comfortable independently presenting to (often large) groups of people usually at meetings, workshops or conferences
  • Strong problem understanding and solving skills, particularly relating to articulation of strategic approaches and successfully delivering impactful communications
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills necessary to build trust and respect both internally and at a senior level with both clients and regulatory bodies
  • Proven experience of delivering client work that is effective, profitable and of the highest standard
  • Strong level of common sense and systematic approach to getting things done
  • Can-do attitude that embraces teamwork while being able to handle projects individually
